1h. 45min. // This adaptation of Oliver Twist, brings Charles Dickens’ timeless novel to life with dramatic intensity and rich visual storytelling. Set in 19th-century England, the film follows the tragic yet hopeful journey of Oliver Twist, an orphan boy born into poverty and hardship. After a grim childhood in a workhouse, where he faces starvation and cruelty, young Oliver dares to utter the iconic plea, “Please, sir, I want some more,” which sets in motion a series of fateful events.

Expelled from the workhouse for his audacity, Oliver finds himself on the unforgiving streets of London. There, he falls into the company of Fagin, a cunning old man who trains homeless boys to become pickpockets. Under Fagin’s manipulative influence and the sinister presence of Bill Sikes, a brutal criminal, Oliver’s innocence is put to the test. However, amidst the darkness, Oliver’s path crosses with kind-hearted individuals like Mr. Brownlow, whose compassion offers the boy a glimpse of hope and the chance for redemption.

He soon realizes that he doesn’t belong there and leaves to join his friend, Eddie’s band. Ethel, Eddie’s girlfriend, convinces Gene to go to New York and make it big. The 3 of them head to New York. Here Ethel and Gene soon fall in love and Gene makes a name for himself. Gene starts to live in the fast lane, with drugs, alcohol, women and parties.
1h 35min. // A charming outlaw known as the Cisco Kid rides the dusty trails of the Southwest, robbing stages with a disarming grin and a code all his own. Feared by the law but […]

1h 35min. // A charming outlaw known as the Cisco Kid rides the dusty trails of the Southwest, robbing stages with a disarming grin and a code all his own. Feared by the law but adored by the public, he turns every holdup into a performance, punctuated by easy banter and the occasional song. His greatest weakness, however, is not a sheriff’s bullet but a fickle sweetheart waiting back in town, whose affections are as changeable as the desert wind.

While the Cisco Kid toys with the authorities, a determined U.S. Army sergeant is dispatched to bring him in. The sergeant thinks he’s found the perfect angle when he learns of the outlaw’s love for the flirtatious Tonia Maria, a woman who enjoys the attention of any man who happens to be nearby. What begins as a simple plan to use her as bait quickly turns into a dangerous triangle of deception, jealousy, and shifting loyalties.

As the sergeant grows more entangled with Tonia Maria, the line between duty and desire blurs. The Cisco Kid, sensing betrayal in the air, responds with his trademark mix of humor and menace, turning the chase into a psychological game played out against sweeping canyons, mission walls, and stark desert vistas. The story builds toward an ironic and morally ambiguous climax, true to its O. Henry roots, where charm and bravado can no longer shield anyone from the consequences of their choices.

Along the way, the film revels in its new sound technology: the jangle of spurs, the echo of gunshots, and the Cisco Kid’s casual serenades lend an immediacy that pulls audiences straight into the frontier. Beneath the light touches and romantic entanglements, though, lies a surprisingly sharp portrait of betrayal and survival on the borderlands, where even a singing cowboy can’t quite ride clear of fate.

2h 6min. // Set in Chicago in the late 1920s, during the days of Prohibition, the film tells the story of Joe E. Lewis (played by Frank Sinatra), a rising singer of the Club 777, a speakeasy owned by Georgie Parker, known for his ties with the mob.

Lewis’ life turns upside down when he leaves Georgie and accepts the offer of another club owner who gives him more money. His decision almost cost his life as a couple of Parker’s men attack him badly, fracturing his skull and cutting his throat. Miraculously, he survives the aggression, but the wounds end his career as a singer.

Bleak, he starts working as a clown in low rated vaudeville acts. But suddenly, he returns to the spotlight when his old friend Sophie Tucker makes him sing on stage with her. With his voice damaged, he can’t hit the high notes, so he uses his acerbic and sharp sense of humor to disarm the audience and he realizes his talent for comedy. Soon, Lewis makes a great career as a comedian, but his drinking problems and his self-destructive behaviour lead him to question his life.

Based on Art Cohn’s biography The Life of Joe. E. Lewis, The Joker is Wild is one of the most memorable Frank Sinatra’s films.
