12min. // Considered the first sci-fi movie, A Trip to the Moon is a French silent film directed by Georges Méliès. Inspired by a wide variety of sources, including Jules Verne’s novels From the Earth to the Moon and Around the Moon, the film follows a group of astronomers who travel to the Moon in a cannon-propelled capsule, explore the Moon’s surface, escape from an underground group of Selenites (lunar inhabitants), and return to Earth with a captive Selenite. It features an ensemble cast of French theatrical performers, led by Méliès himself in the main role of Professor Barbenfouillis, and is filmed in the overtly theatrical style for which Méliès became famous.

1h 18min. // In the Victorian England, the stingy and cranky Ebenezer Scrooge does not care to Christmas and runs his business exploiting his employee Bob Cratchit and clients. In the Christmas Eve, he is visited by the doomed ghost of his former partner Jacob Marley that tells him that three spirits would visit him that night. The first one, the spirit of past Christmas, recalls his miserable youth when he lost his only love due to his greed; the spirit of the present Christmas shows him the poor situation of Bob’s family and tiny Tim and how joyful life may be; and the spirit of future Christmas shows his fate. Scrooge finds that life is good and time is too short and suddenly you are not there anymore, changing his behavior toward Christmas, Bob, his nephew Fred and people in general.

1h. 21min. // The story begins with a young real estate agent, Hutter, who is sent by his boss to the remote Transylvanian castle of the wealthy Count Orlok. Despite being warned by the locals of the danger of his journey, Hutter persists and sets off on his mission. Once he arrives at the castle, Hutter is greeted by the strange and eerie Count Orlok, who is revealed to be a vampire. Hutter becomes increasingly unnerved by Orlok’s strange behavior and soon realizes that he is in grave danger. After a terrifying encounter with Orlok, Hutter manages to escape and return home to his wife, Ellen. But his troubles are far from over, as Orlok has followed him back to Germany, setting off a deadly chain of events. As the vampire feeds on the local population, Hutter and Ellen realize they must stop him before it’s too late. They come up with a plan to lure Orlok into a trap and destroy him once and for all. But will their plan succeed, or will they fall prey to the vampire’s deadly powers?

The film is known for its haunting visual style, which is characterized by its use of shadows and stark contrasts. It is also considered a landmark in the horror genre, and one of the most influential films of all time.

1h 46min. // Explorer Professor Challenger is taking quite a beating in the London press thanks to his claim that living dinosaurs exist in the far reaches of the Amazon. Newspaper reporter Edward Malone learns that this claim originates from a diary given to him by fellow explorer Maple White’s daughter, Paula. Malone’s paper funds an expedition to rescue Maple White, who has been marooned at the top of a high plateau. Joined by renowned hunter John Roxton, and others, the group goes to South America, where they do indeed find a plateau inhabited by pre-historic creatures, one of which they even manage to bring back to London with them.
